Anugerah Naib Canselor 2012 IM110 - Dygku Nur Saumasyawal Bte Awgku Jaya

Name: Dygku Nur Saumasyawal Bte Awgku Jaya
Batch: July 2009, graduated in 2012
Currently taking Bachelor Degree in Records Management
Achievement during Diploma: Vice Chancellor Award, the Best Student Award (Programme), and the Best Student Award (Faculty)

For this entries, I would like to share with you things that I have and always practice as a student(In shaa Allah):

1. Niat/intention
It will be a waste of time if we just learn for the sake of learning. Don't just study to pursue a good job or a bigger salary,  but intend to succeed in this world and in the hereafter. With God willing you will be successful.

2. Have goals
By being students, we are motivated by goals represent in terms of career aspirations and life's desires. Goals will motivate a positive attitude and thinking, especially when you are feeling tired of being a student. It will be helpful if you set a target for every subject in every semester like A+ or A. This will push you to work harder instead of being lazy.

3. Never skip class
Always come to class so that you will not miss any lessons or important information from lecturers. Commitment to the class should be a high priority and exceeds other temptations.

4. Pray
No matter what is your belief, always pray to be successful in your studies. For Muslims,do not miss your 5x daily prayers and make Du'a. While everything is in God’s will, still we must make everything the best we can.

5. Responsible and active
You should be responsible for your own learning. Actively listen, think, question, and take notes that are understandable in class because no one else is going to do it for you. Active classroom participation will improve grades without increasing your study time. A short review of your notes while the material is still fresh on your mind will help you learn and memorize more. The more you learn then, the less you will have to learn later. Do not memorize all but memorize the key concepts. It will be easier to retain the information in your memory if you understand the concepts. Always share and discuss what you have learn with others. Talking about something with friends or classmates is not only good for checking whether or not you know something, it helps you to remember what you have learn.

6. Be good to others
Respect your lecturers and be good to your classmates. Maintaining a good relationship with others will help you not only in your studies but also when you are out of the classroom. Find good friends who are willing to help you in your studies and personal, and do not follow friends who brought you to wrong way.

7. Effort and time management
Effort is needed to meet demand of an assignments and to accomplish the task successfully. Make research and always refer to your lecturer to make sure you do the right thing. Do not procrastinate until the last minute and do not take assignments lightly because the marks determine your grades. Always submit a complete, concise and tidy work because marks are given for those criteria and most importantly, submit assignments on time. Also, do well for test and quizzes because they are will add to your carry marks later on. Different people have their own way of learning, therefore you should know who you are and find the best way to help you to study better.

And that all from me. I would like to thank to all my lecturers for making this happen, and not forgetting my friends and beloved family. Wishing all the best for juniors in FPM UiTM Sarawak. :)

Anugerah Naib Canselor 2010 & Graduan Terbaik Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian) Pengurusan Rekod

Assalamualaikum w.b.t & Salam Sejahtera…
This is a simple introduction about me. Given name is Matahati Mahbol. Born on 23rd Dec 1987 at Batu Pahat Johor. Have 3 siblings and me the only princess for En. Mahbol Polnama & Puan Siti Solosiah Paniran.
Already become alumnus of Diploma in Information Management at UiTM Sarawak for almost 6 years. Back to Diploma time, I am not an excellent student. I've always dream to wear a “Chancellery Scarf” but it only kept as a dream. I am not success to complete Dean List every semester. But it not make me upset. We have a Degree Level right? Then I continue studying at UiTM Puncak Perdana taking Record Management minor in System Management in the year mid 2008 till mid 2010. During this period, I need to proof to myself that I make my dream come true. It was a great and beautiful moment when I been announced as the “GRADUAN TERBAIK PROGRAM”. Currently furthering my Master at University Technology Mara in Human Resource Development started with part time student and now already changes status to the full time student. I hope that I could finish this upcoming semester. Maybe it had been a question why I am not further in same course because IM course is already familiar to me. The simple answer I can give is the decision I made was depending towards time, place and situation on that time. BUT, even though it not in the same field anymore but IM always become as my fire starter in developing who I am today. Every experience and opportunity that I grab & learn during Diploma & Degree level becomes a priceless knowledge and maturing me in every action that I took.
Back to business where I've been requested to share finger tips for achievement in academic. Every individuals have different way in achieving their target but usually all tips almost same to each other but not practical to all people. I’ve only have 3 things that I thought would be share to others. It just a simple tips, but hopefully really helpful to all readers.
1.    Attach to God & Religion
These become an important part in our life. This is called “BACK TO BASIC”. We have a stand about religion. Attach with it. Perform what religion says. Put aside a bad thing, and follow a good one. We have knowledge about it. Practice it. It will be simple if you follow and do it with sincerely.
For Muslim: Recite surah Ar-Raad ayat 21 means:”Allah tidak akan mengubah nasib sesuatu kaum itu melainkan mereka mengubahnya sendiri.” We always listening and know about this sentence. So, what are you waiting for? You want a success; it will come to you as long you want to be success and make your dream come true. Additional tips for muslim, always “SELAWAT” when you are happy or sad also never leave 5 times prayer. If you have more strength does solat Dhuha, Tahajjud and Hajat.
If you have any problem, just talk to GOD. HE would listen to all your prayers. Make HIM as your BFF. HE never let you down.
2.    Know who you are
We usually do SWOT for company as a requirement in assignment. Why not you did it for yourselves? Then you will know what yours strength, weak, opportunity and even your threat. These SWOT able to overcome all barriers in you and know your potential either in your academic or in your life. Read more motivational book in notifying your potential.
For example; you are a person who is really like to sleep. (I can’t deny because I also in the same type. J and it happened when, I really like my pillow, comforter and mattress.) PLEASE go to other place for studying purpose. Library is a best way to avoid you from sleeping at hostel or home. My advice, don’t go to crowded place such as McD, KFC, and other crowded place. In my experience, I feel only 5% what I read or understand become a knowledge for me. Another 95% I just love to see people come in and out, looking their dresses is it match or not and most important is chatting.
Other example, know your most comfortable style in studying. Some people love to write down what they read. Some people love to do mind map. Some people love to teach others what they have been read. Some people love to do discussion. No matter what style that you use in studying, make sure it become efficient & effective. KINDLY know your style within first semester. Once you know the rhythm, you will maintain the consistency and improving from time to time. If you are in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or even in 6th semester it will never late to do the changes and know your style of study. “BETTER LATE THAN NEVER”.
 3.    Find a comfortable support
Who will support you when you fall down? Princess will always dream Prince charming will grab her when she falling down to ground. It same goes in your academic life. Find your prince charming. I have 3 princes charming. One is your PARENTS. Second is your LECTURER and third your FRIENDS.
PARENTS always become your back bone. Love them, they will allocate even more than a trillions love for you. Their supports become your strength for you to overcome all your barriers. Just a simple thinking, “BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING, REMEMBER THEM” is it worth if I do like this? I’m not hurt their feeling with my action? What would I do to make them happy? All answer is within you. Every families have own secret, only you know what best for yourself and your family.
LECTURERS are second peoples after your parents in academic life. Without them, you are nothing in academic. Cling with RESPECT to them. For them “SHARING IS CARING” they never kept what they have. Ask for their advice and discuss how you want to improve your academic. They will there for you.
FRIENDS are your life. You will be alone without them. BUT please find a suitable friend that willing to supports you in academic and also your personal. Carefully choose your friends. Leave friends that brought you to a wrong way. A proverb said “FRIENDS REFLECTS WHO YOU ARE”. Friends is support you not only in one semester but for the whole 6 semester. Even though you have a problem with your friends, don’t make it a reason to decrease your performance in study. Thanks your roommate, classmate, course-mate for every single experience that you have.
In the end, I want to say ALL THE BEST for all readers. And proof it that you can success. That only a simple finger tips that I can give to all of you. It is look simple, but it not simple to implement it. Maybe some of the readers said “you already through this journey, it easy for you but hard for me”. And my answer for that “I pass this journey because I know what I want and what I need to be success. So, why not you put aside negative thinking and just follow your rhythm. My time is not same as your time. We can’t make our time is similar. Every person have different difficulties. Just enjoy every laugh, tears, up and down as a students.” InsyaALLAH….
Lastly I leave you with a beautiful tree:
“Diri umpama POKOK… Bermula dari benih, bercambah menjadi pucuk, membesar menjadi pokok.. tapi POKOK apa yang ingin dibesarkan?? Benih yang perlu tentukan…”

Thank you for reading & ALL THE BEST for all my Junior FPM UiTM Sarawak.
With love: Matahati Mahbol

ANUGERAH NAIB CANSELOR 2012

Asssalammualaikum and salam sejahtera.

I am Melati binti Aipidi, an alumnus of Diploma in Information Management at UiTM Samarahan, Sarawak. Recently, I was graduated from UiTM Puncak Perdana on 28th November 2012 taking IM220: Bachelor Degree in Library Science and Information Management. It took only two years to have a Degree because it only has 4 semesters for the Post Diploma’s students to complete their study under the same faculty.

During my study in Bachelor Degree level, I took Library Management as my major and Records Management as my minor. There were not so many differences from what I had learnt during my Diploma time. It was just some advancement in the syllabus where more practical part needed to done instead of understanding the theoretical part only. However, Bachelor Degree is more challenging compared to Diploma where you have to be more independent in searching additional information for assignments or the subject itself, and the assignment is tough too.

In this writing, I want to take the opportunity to say how grateful I am to Allah because of His willingness; I can get this recognized achievement “ANUGERAH NAIB CANSELOR” for the second time. Moreover, I would like to thanks to my family who raised me up and who always become my loyal supporters, lecturers who continuously share their knowledge, advice and friends who always made my day and facilitated me in completing my assignments.

Some tips that I would like to share with the readers in order to get distinction and graduating with flying colors are stated as follows:

a. Lecturer and Reference Librarian – the subjects offered in the Degree’s level are more or less the same with the subjects that I’ve taken during my Diploma’s time. However, the syllabuses are more advanced in relation to suit the Degree’s qualification. It might be a little bit difficult for you to understand new subjects, so, you need to have your own initiative to improve your comprehension by meeting the lecturer for a proper consultation. In addition, since I become a Degree’s student, I consult with the reference librarian a lot. I knew the use of the reference librarian a bit too late because I only noticed the responsibility of the reference librarian during my final semester in Diploma. Since I already know the input and assistance that a reference librarian could offer to you, I frequently ask them to assist me for the best method that I can use to search information from reliable sources.

b. Be more energetic and contributes new ideas – Degree’s level is busier and challenging than Diploma’s level. In order for you to be more keyed up with the assignments’ demands, be more active in class by participating in the question and answer session, try to give new refreshing ideas to the class and be creative in doing your assignments. As a result, you’ll always be prepared for any works required to be done, feel more relaxed with the environment and gained self confidence. Just want to share with you, lecturer will easily noticed students that are active in class and this will give you some added advantages.

 c. Study method – everyone has their own study style which we cannot change in a blink of an eye. Therefore, I would like to share how I study.

i. Memorizing – I like to memorize the notes given in order to allow me to answer the questions asked in the examination. I find it easier to answer the questions with everything have been set up in the brain. You may think it is time consuming to memorize, but, if you understand the topic, it will be easier for you to memorize. Just memorize the important points, the elaboration of the point you can create by your own; based on the correct understanding and knowledge you have gained from class, lecturer or readings.

ii. Writing notes – whenever I studied, I like to write a note in order to summarize everything that I’ve been read and memorize. Not to forget, I will also make a messy drawing on the notes in order to help me remember the points from the picture I drew.

iii. Concentrating in class – although some lecturers may provide us notes, I still need to focus in their lecture. It is because you will understand more by listening instead of reading. Some lecturers who are clever enough to attract the students’ attention by the way they lecture might give good benefit for the student as well. I’m not being bias or anything, but, comfortable and attractive lecturers and lectures do contribute to the level of understanding of the students.

iv. Time management – I am not a type of student that will do work early. I like to procrastinating works. However, I’ll always be alert with the deadline to ensure I won’t be too late to submit the assignments. Plus, I am not a student that will come to class early and I even escape class once in a while. I’m not saying that even though I escaped class, I can still be excellent; it is just that I want to share to you that to be successful; you just have to be yourself at one moment. You can hold up your works if you want, but it is on your own risk. I like to delay my assignments because I work well under pressure because it has been set up in my brain that “I don’t have more time to waste, I need to finish this before the deadline which is tomorrow”. My advice is; don’t follow this bad habit if you don’t want the bad consequences occurred to you in the future time.

d. Be positive about the Information Management Faculty - Courses offered by our faculty might not as popular as other courses; however, you need to be positive about that. Just think that you are lucky enough to be able to be a part of the faculty because you are actually learning something that not many people have knowledge about it. It is because we are different and we learn something unusual that make us more marketable than the others. I am so thankful that I was offered to be a student in this faculty. Now, I am the alumni of it which will always make me proud.

You might think that the job opportunities might be gloomy for you by taking this course, but we never knows what Allah has planned for us. You just have to be sincere, serious and focus in your study, and then everything will fall into places.
I guess that is all I want to share with the readers. For your additional information, I went for my industrial training at the library of University Brunei Darussalam for two months as librarian. After finished the attachment period, I went back to my hometown in Limbang, Sarawak to complete my industrial training report and enjoy my short 2 months vacation before I officially graduated in November 2012.

After I graduated, I was hired by one of the leading IT Company in Brunei Darussalam. Now, I work in that company as a Software Engineer.

Thank you and good luck to all my juniors in UiTM Samarahan.

Melati binti Aipidi.

FIM’s Excellent Graduate Awards IM222’s Best Sophomore & Alumni of UiTM Samarahan Campus, Sarawak Year 2012

Born on 25 September 1989 in Kuching, Sarawak, Mohammad Hafizzul Sulaiman is definitely a lively, talented and enthusiastic student of all time. He is the only son to Mr Sulaiman bin Morsidi and Mdm Horiah binti Narawi.

Breathing in a very modest life, this bright, young lad strives for excellent achievements in whatever errands he is responsible for. He had his early childhood education in KEMAS kindergarten when he was six. Later, he commenced his primary schooling in SK St. Joseph, Kuching, and pursued his secondary studies at SMK St. Joseph, Kuching. He passed his UPSR, PMR and SPM examinations with impressive results. Driven by his profound attentiveness in education, he committed to venture the new environment of university life and away from his family.

Mohammad Hafizzul was offered to undertake Diploma in Information Management at UiTM, Samarahan Campus in mid-2007. It was his dream to be there since most of his relatives graduated from the same university each year. Information Management programme is a new thing to him; thus, he worked so hard to master all of the courses offered and achieved good grades each semester. Diligently, he balances both academic matters and extra-curricular activities, mixing his sociability and charisma with his life-long fascination in Information studies. He always ahead to retain all knowledge he acquired for future benefits, and sidesteps the mind-set of exam-oriented learning. He completed his diploma with a decisive CGPA of 3.90 and received three exclusive awards; the Vice Chancellor Award, the Best Student Award (Programme), and the Best Student Award (Faculty).

In mid-2010, Mohammad Hafizzul furthered his study in UiTM Puncak Perdana Campus, Shah Alam; majoring Bachelor of Science in Records Management (Honours) for a duration of two years. His great developed interests in Historical Research and Archival Science become the success factor to survive in this degree programme. Desirably, his tight schedule and extra responsibilities posed no inhibition to his well attaining academic excellence.
This busy fellow did manage his time well and able to be punctual for report submission even though his weekly schedule was extremely full. Skipping classes is not ethical to him since he enjoyed every single course in his study plan taught by his favourite lecturers; unless he had another commitment that is excusable from attending lectures.

Throughout his undergraduate study, Mohammad Hafizzul found that the key to splendid success is to excel both academic and non-academic accomplishments. He regularly attended and organized seminars and public events in relation to his specialization. His regular efforts in exposing and convincing the marketability of this degree programme are well-accepted by large parties. In fact, his contribution towards the faculty had honoured him a great credit, and later received the Faculty’s Best Student Awards during the FIM Pre-Graduation Night 2012. He, then, finally completed his degree studies with a final CGPA of 3.94 which grants him another glorious Vice Chancellor Award and two more honorary titles (Programme’s Best Graduate Award and FIM’s Whole Best Graduate Award) on his 77th Convocation Ceremony.

Besides academic excellence, Mohammad Hafizzul is an active student in sports, societies, and extraneous activities. He had been elected and held the post as the Head of Career Development Coordinator for the Integration of Records Community. For most corporate and leisure events, he would likely be invited as the Master of Ceremony, moderator, facilitator, even as the guest speaker. It is no doubt that his communication skills bloom his talent to speak to a large group of spectators confidently. Furthermore, relationship between colleagues, lecturers, and other parties is also maintained from time to time in order to gain recognition and multi-respect.

By setting his mind accomplishing both short-term and long-term goals in life, Mohammad Hafizzul had planned wisely for his future. This Public Service Department (JPA) sponsored student hopes to pursue his Master’s degree in the UK. To him, studying abroad creates exciting experiences and greater knowledge acquisitions. He promises himself to serve UiTM after his PhD as an academician and wishes that there will be more graduates, especially information professionals, with high competent level and quality traits are produced from this prestigious institution in the forthcoming years.

All in all, through his unremitting involvement and achievement, he declares that UiTM is the best place he ever been to and hopes his presence will remain a legend to be idolized by forthcoming undergraduates.
